So I was bored earlier today and decided to have Maple compute pi to 1,000,000 decimals. It took a while for Maple and my Mac mini to compute it, but I did get the value in the end.
Anyone whose interested in the result can download this text file.

Friday, March 28th, 2008Cool Feet
Friday, March 28th, 2008I recently got a set of Cool Feet from Bluelounge. Cool Feet are essentially rubber suction cups that you attach to the bottom of your laptop to elevate it, allowing the heat generated by the system to disperse (see image below), whereas without being elevated the heat would be trapped between the system and the desk (or whatever surface it’s placed on).

I’ve used the Cool Feet for a few days now and although the system’s reported temperature is about the same, the fan hasn’t come on as often as before. Before using Cool Feet, periodically the fan would spin up from it’s idle rate (2000 rpm) to a higher spin rate (~5000 rpm) sometimes even reaching it’s max spin rate (6200 rpm). So I would say that although the Cool Feet don’t lower the actual temperature of the system, it does help ventilate the heat and overall does keep the system cooler.

Although there are other cheaper alternatives then Cool Feet, such using two rubber erasers or cardboard, I think Cool Feet is worth the investment. Since they’re attached to the system through suction, if you have a sudden need to slide the system forward or backward a bit they’ll move with the system; where as cardboard won’t and erasers only move with it sometimes. Not to mention you can pick up the system move it to another part of desk with the Cool Feet still attached so you don’t have to worry about repositioning them to the setup you want. Overall, I would have to say it was money well spent!
Almost 3 Years…
Wednesday, March 19th, 2008I remember almost 3 years ago around the time when I graduated from high school, I wrote a blog post (on my old blog) and made a little tribute page to some of my high school friends, and at the time, I had expressed my belief that some friendships don’t make it past high school and I believed that that was true between some of my closest friends and I. I remember that at the time my friends told me I was being pessimistic and that everything would be fine, and told me not to worry so much about it, cause it wouldn’t happen between us. Yet here I am, almost 3 years later and well, of the 4 friends that I cherished in high school, I no longer talk to one of them, the friendship is so far gone that I don’t think it’ll ever be recoverable; one of them I rarely talk to these days, and when we do talk, it seems very odd and totally unfamiliar. The other two friends have stuck by me through the ups and downs I’ve faced after high school and the fact that I’m still close friends with them is a surprise to me altogether…
Sometimes it seems as though I do think in a far too pessimistic way, but with 2/4 friendships failed it’s hard for me not to be as pessimistic as I sometimes am, but I do cherish what I have now and I do hope that these two friends will be there for me when I need them…
WordPress 2.5 RC1
Tuesday, March 18th, 2008So I upgraded my WordPress to the latest version, WordPress 2.5 RC1. As the RC1 implies, this isn’t a final release of WordPress 2.5, and there are many still many bugs within the code. If anyone experiences any problems please feel free to comment here or contact me, I’ll pass it along to the WordPress dev team. Thanks.
Gmail Labels…
Saturday, March 15th, 2008So I couldn’t seem to fall asleep last night (took a small nap earlier), so I decided to sort my email and switch my gmail account from POP to IMAP. Sorting it wasn’t hard, because I’ve sorted my email with POP enough times after reinstalling the OS, but now, when I go to my gmail’s labels I have this long list of labels within labels within labels… It’s weird how gmail sorts things by labels instead of folders (so you can have multiple labels for each email), but my mail application uses folders… would that mean that my computer downloads this emails multiple times to my hard drive if an email have multiple labels?! Must investigate… at least now I have my mail sync no matter which computer I use!!
